In summer of 2019,\ntwo management plans for the Latvian project areas Augstroze Nature Reserve and\nBaltezers Mire Nature Reserve were officially approved by the Ministry of\nEnvironmental Protection and Regional Development. Both plans were developed\nwithin LIFE Peat Restore project according to the procedure required by the\nnational regulation by the expert team of University of Latvia and contracted\nexternal experts. The plans are essential in implementing the actions proposed\nwithin LIFE Peat Restore project, as during development of the plan the actions\nand details are already agreed among all parties involved and thus they\nsignificantly ease the coordination of works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The plans are developed for the time period from 2018 to 2030, and include long-term and short-term objectives and action plans for conservation and restoration of habitats and species. The core actions in both areas that are those proposed within the LIFE Peat Restore project, i.e. blocking of ditches to restore healthy peatland ecosystems. All management proposals were based on detailed field inventories carried out in 2017 and 2018 and hydro-geological modelling. The actions were thoroughly discussed within steering groups which held regular meetings during elaboration of the plans, agreed among all interested parties and presented during meetings for the general public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both plans and attachments are available on the website of the Latvian Nature Conservation Agency: Augstroze<\/a> and Baltezers Mire<\/a> (in Latvian).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
